She nodded into his chest and yawned again. “Only let me sleep for like an hour, kay? We gotta celebrate or somethin’,” she mumbled, already slipping into sleep.

It had been a little over an hour. since John had dozed off himself towards the end, when he placed gentle kisses along Jubie’s jaw, then to her cheek.  ”Hey… naptime’s over, babe…”  He said softly, but loud enough for her to hear.

Jubilee curled into him carefully and made a noise in the back of her throat. “Couldn’t really sleep the whole time. Worried. Scared. Y’know how it goes.” She shrugged lightly and closed her eyes. “Even when I tried, I couldn’t. I stayed with ya a lot of the time while ya slept.”

He kissed the top of her head.  ”No more worries, alright?”  He slipped his good arm around her, making it so they were both comfy.  ”Sleep.  You need it more than I do now.”

“Tha’s good,” she mumbled again, still rather sleepy. Jubilee pulled aside her blanket and gestured for him to lay down with her. “I know ya’ve been sleepin’ for like a week, but I haven’t an’ I’m exhausted. Get in before I make ya.” As thrilled as she was that John was out of the MedBay, she was still suffering from her lack of sleep.

“Alright…”  He said, sighing slightly as he spoke.  She was right; he had gotten plenty of sleep the past week.  He carefully moved so that he was laying next to her.  He layed on his back, since it was still very uncomfortable, and sometimes painful to lay on his sides, but turned his head to look at her.  Even if he didn’t sleep, he’d still lay there with her.  ”What, you didn’t have any extra time to sleep while I was down there?”  He lightly joked.

“Mornin’, baby,” she mumbled, nuzzling her face into his neck. “Hank said ya could go? Are ya in pain still?” Jubilee was thrilled he was finally out. She knew firsthand how boring the MedBay could be, especially for someone as active as they were. She hugged him gently, a smile growing on her face.

“I just gotta be careful.  It’s not nearly as bad as it was last week.”  He told her lightly resting his head on top of hers.  ”I still shouldn’t be doing much, but I think I’m fine as long as it doesn’t hurt.”  It was great to actually be somewhere besides the med-bay, and to actually get up and go somewhere.  Of course he’d take it easy, but he’d still do things as long as he wasn’t in pain.

Jubilee was fast asleep in her bed, in the middle of a very nice dream involving her, John, and a beach, when she felt something on her face. She wrinkled her nose and swatted lightly, still asleep. It persisted, however, and woke her up completely. She grumbled and swatted again, finally deciding to open her eyes. She blinked for a few moments, a scowl set on her face while her vision gradually came into focus. John’s face came into view, and Jubilee bit back a squeak of joy as she threw her arms around him, mindful of his still-casted arm.

He chuckled, finding it amusing the way she reacted in her sleep to him, then smiled, lightly laughing when she fully realized that he was there.  He pulled her into a gentle hug, being careful of his ribs, with his good arm.  ”Morning.”  He said, then placed a kiss on her forehead.

Good morning, John, how are you…?

I’ve, uh, been better… much better, actually…

It had been around ten days since John had entered the med-bay in poor condition.  It was his ribs that was keeping him there the longest.  Finally the day that he was allowed to leave came.  Dr. McCoy came in and went over everything that he needed to know: What not to do, what to do when he started feeling more pain.  He was told what conditions would require a visit to the med-bay.  Finally, he was allowed to get up and walk out, (under Hank’s supervision of course—He needed to see if he would do well.)

John walked, carefully, up to the main floor.  He knew where Jubes’d be; either in the den, or in her room, possibly outside since the weather was nice.  He chucked the den first, since it was closest.  Not finding her there, he made his way to her room.  He paused at the door, about to knock, but decided to open the door himself.  He peeked in, finding her still asleep, causing a small smile to grow on his face.  He stepped in, shutting the door behind him, silently.  He gently sat down on her bed, brushing hair out of her face.  He was well aware it’d wake her, but he didn’t think she’d mind much when she realized it was him…not in the med-bay.

Jo widened her eyes in mock-innocence. “I resent that implication,” she told him, not sounding like she much resented it at all. She looked idly down at her hands, flexing the one with the flamethrower cuff attached to it. Nervous habit, one of many. She didn’t like being still.

She looked over at him from the window ledge, crossing one ankle over the opposite knee. She could see the curiosity in his eyes, and she knew it was warranted. She was the Brotherhood’s poster child, after all. Mutant and proud, and all that. “Not as dedicated,” she repeated, neither affirming nor denying the statement. She smiled, but it didn’t touch her eyes. “Come on. Are you suggesting that lighting the world on fire and fighting my old friends might actually get old?”

He studied her face.  He knew he expressions.  Only because they were his own.  ”Y’know it’s hard to keep something from yourself.”  He told her. He shifted a bit, starting to get uncomfortable being in the same position for a while.

“What exactly are you thinking?”  He questioned.  The metallic clicking of his Zippo lighter started up again as he looked at her.  He knew his curiosity was seeping from his face, but he didn’t care.
